Obituary
DEXTER - Cyril A. Pooler, 65, popular local businessman and former Dexter tax assessor, died unexpectedly Dec. 13 at his Charleston Rd. home. An affable man with a ready smile, Mr. Pooler was, until his death, a real estate broker with Abbott Realty and Insurance. He also served the Town of Dexter as assessor for some nine years, retiring in 1977. He was born in Dexter, Feb. 28, 1915, son of Adolph and Elisse (Groleau) Poulin. He graduated from N.H. Fay High School in 1932, where he was a member of the basketball team and manager of the baseball team. His high school yearbook referred to his "cheerful smile," and noted that his nickname was "Sid." His interest in athletics continued all his life; friends described him as an avid sports fan, particularly for Boston teams. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. As a young man, he purchased the Wall St. Market which he ran for several years before selling. He then went to work at Fay and Scott Machine Shop (Fayscott) where he retired after 18 years. Following completion of a special course at Bowdoin, he received his real estate broker's license. Mr. Pooler was a charter member of Dexter's first Kiwanis Club, a member of the Knights of Columbus, a communicant of St. Anne's Catholic Church and a past member of the parish council. He was a former member of the Maine Municipal Association. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Avery) Poulin of Dexter; one daughter, Mrs. Raymond (Patsy) Smith of Oklahoma; one brother, Philip of Cambridge; three sisters, Miss Imogene Poulin of Fairfield, Mrs. Martha Eliot of Old Orchard and Mrs. Connie Mountain of Newport, N.H.; two grandchildren, Bonnie and Scott. A Mass of Christian burial was said Dec. 17 at St. Anne's Church. Burial followed at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. Friends wishing may contribute to the Heart Fund or the Maine Kidney Foundation, and contributions may be left at the Crosby Funeral Home, Dexter. note: obituary refers to his name as Pooler
