Obituary
DEXTER - A small family Mass of Christian Burial was held yesterday at St. Anne's Catholic Church here for five-year-old Jeffrey L. Clukey, who died Monday as a result of injuries he received Sunday when his bicycle collided with a pick-up truck on High St. He was the son of Darla Clukey of Dexter and Michael Clukey of Orlando, Florida. According to Dexter Police Officer William Thornton, the child came out of a neighbor's blind driveway at 150 High St., on his bicycle, just as James Page, 26, of Dexter, was driving north along the street. The Dexter ambulance responded to the call at 5:05 p.m., and transported the youngster first to Plummer Memorial Hospital, then to Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft. He was then transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center, where he died. Thornton said that an autopsy listed the cause of death as cerebral, interabdominal hemorrage and ruptured spleen. "No criminal actions are being contemplated at this time" against Page, said Thornton, who added the driver was "very shaken up." The accident is still under investigation by Police Chief David Clukey, Thornton and Maine State Police Officer Carroll Crandall. At least one eyewitness and several neighbors are still to be interviewed, said Thornton. The boy, who just started kindergarten this fall, was born November 19, 1973, in Bangor. Surviving besides his mother and father are a brother, Kevin; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Clukey, all of Dexter; and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Perry of Hermon. Crosby Funeral Home handled the funeral arrangements, and burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Memorial contributions to his memory may be forwarded to St. Anne's Rectory, Dexter, for use toward the construction of the new parish center.
