Former Rep. Harold Keyte dead at 82 DEXTER - Harold J. Keyte, 82, Dexter native and former representative to the Maine Legislature died Monday at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. Born in Dexter, May 3, 1897 the son of Albert and Annie Carty Keyte, he graduated from Dexter High School in the class of 1916. He was a communicant of St. Anne's Catholic Church, past member of the Knights of Columbus, manager of the Bangor Transportation Co. for many years and was a partner in the Keyte Brothers Coal and Trucking Co. of Dexter. He was a past member of the Lions Club, past director of the Dexter Grange, member of the Democratic 500 Club and Dexter Fire Dept. Keyte, a Democrat, served five years in the Maine House under Gov. John H. Reed and Gov. Kenneth M. Curtis. He was active in Democratic politics on various levels. He is survived by his step-daughter, Mrs. Eddie Groten of Auburn; one brother, Fred Keyte of Dexter; two sister, Mrs. Eileen Mitchell of Dexter and Mrs. Evelyn Carr of Boston; one grandchild; several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial was said Wednesday at 9 a.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church.
