Obituary	AVIS N. SHAW DEXTER - Avis N. Shaw, 74, died at a Bangor hospital May 13 after a short illness. She was the wife of Robert Shaw. She was born in Centerville N.B., Aug. 16, 1902, daughter of Perry and Nellie Thomas Nelson. She moved to Presque Isle as a child where she attended school. She moved to Dexter in 1920 where she worked in the retail stores and textile factories. She was a life member of the Maine Horseman's Association. She served on the board of governors and was a registered judge for horse shows and gymkhana. She was a member of Martha Washington Rebekah Lodge in Dexter and First Free Bptist Church. She is survived by her husband of Dexter; two daughters, Marie Carr of Augusta and Mrs. Beverly Batey of Fairfield; six brothers, Roy, Spurgeon, Perry, all of Dexter; Andrew, Stoney Point, NY; Earl of Warren; and Glenn Nelson of Lewiston; six sisters, Mrs. Ethel Barney, Mrs. Lois McKenney, both of Dexter; Helen Higgins of Bangor; Mrs. Shirley Campbell and Lela Nelson of Dover-Foxcroft; Dorothy Towle of Augusta; eight grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were May 16 at the First Free Baptist Church, the Rev. Andrew Sporher officiating.
