MATTHEW A. VANCE DEXTER-Matthew A. Vance, 74, died April 12, at a Bangor hospital after a short illness. He was born in Gaeta, Italy, August 23, 1902 the son of Nicolo and Erasmus Vance. He was an ordained elder in the United Methodist Church and held a Bachelor of Divinity degree from Boston University. He had served parishes in Michagan, Massachusetts and Ohio. He also held a masters degree from Boston University. He held a masters degree in education, and had a professorship at Olivette College and Adrian College in Michigan. He was an author and was well known for his plays, "Pilot" and "Judas Escariot." He was recently guest lecturer at the University of Maine, and was well respected in the state's educational system. He is survived by two sons, Herbert of Lowville, NY, and John of Toledo, Ohio; a daughter, Mr. Priscilla Schantz of Highland, NY; a brother, Jules of Burlington, Mass; five sisters, Mrs. Mary Renaccio of Arlinton, Mass; Elizabeth Doorakian of Burlington, Mass; Mrs. Susan Perry of Vienna, Va; Mrs. Pauline Tarrerri of Cambridge, Mass., and Mrs. Ann Vois of Rockland, Mass. and seven grandchildren. Funeral services were April 14, at the United Methodist Church in Dexter, the Rev. Paul Marshall officiating. Burial will be in Littleton, NH.
