Obituary
Frank Pettingill Funeral services for Frank Pettingill, 85, were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Gilman Lane officiating. Odd Fellows services were also conducted. The body was taken to Ware, Mass., by Elwin Crosby, Sunday for burial and was accompanied by Mrs. Jennie Perkins and Miss Barbara Perkins. Commital services were conducted at the grave in Quabbin Park cemetary. Mr. Pettingill died at the local hospital where he had been a patient several weeks, having been taken ill while he was visiting relatives in town. He was born in Dexter the son of Rufus and Ruth Arno Pettingill and in early life was united in marriage to Flora Glass, now deceased. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Perkins; a sister, Mrs. Ellie Hurd and several grandchildren. ------- Frank A. Pettingill Frank A. Pettingill passed away at the Plummer Memorial hospital, August 30. Mr. Pettingill was born in Dexter, March 9, 1860, a son of the late Rufus and Ruth Arno Pettengill. In 1888 he was united in marriage to Miss Flora Bell Glass of Bath, Maine, who, died July 23, 1927. To this union two children were born, Mrs. Jennie E. Perkins of Dexter, where her father has lived for the past year and another daughter, Mrs. Frances Thrasher of Gilbertville Mass., who is deceased. He was a valued member of the Odd Fellows for over 50 years, having joined at Bath, Maine where he was employed in the ship yard for several years. He went from Bath to Harvard, Mass., where he owned and operated an apple orchard for several years, having lived in several towns in Massachusetts. When a young man he was in Minnesota for several years, where he did market gardening, later returning to his home in Maine. He boarded one winter in Union, West Virginia and he never tired of telling his friends about the South. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Jennie Perkins of Ripley; five grandchildren, Philip J. Perkins of Chicago, Frank A. Perkins, in the U. S. Army, Miss Barbara Perkins of Dexter, Frank Thrasher and Janice Thrasher of Gilbertville, Mass.; two great grandchildren in the South; one sister, Mrs. Ellie Hurd of Dexter also several nieces and nephews.
