Obituary
Arthur C. Reed Arthur C. Reed, 66, died suddenly Sunday forenoon,at his home on Spring street. He was born in Garland, March 13, 1879, a son of the late Jeremiah and Frances Reed, and lived the greater part of his life in that town, coming to Dexter about ten years ago. In 1914 he was united in marriage Miss Helen Bunker of Franklin, who died in 1931. In 1940 he married Lou Crane of Bangor. While living in Dexter he became interested in civic and fraternal organizations giving both moral and financial support, and various ways, where assistance was needed, in a quiet way. He has been a member of the Odd Fellows for more than 35 years, and at the time of his death was a past grand of Plymouth lodge, I. 0. 0. F., chief patriarch of Silver Lake encampment, captain of Canton Dexter and a member of Martha Washington Rebekah lodge. He was also a member of Penobscot lodge, F. and A. M. He was also interested in Boy Scout work. He is survived by his wife: a son, Ensign William Frederick of the U. S. Maritime Service; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the First Universalist church Wednesday afternoon at 2 p. m. Rev. Walter R. Towe of Unity officiating. Odd Fellow services were also conducted and memhers of the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs attended in a body. There was a profusion of beautiful flowers. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery in Garland where commital services were held. The bearers were Harry Wilkins, Morton Bullard, Charles Chandler, A. W. Stone, John Chandler and George Huff. Among those from out of town attending the services were his son, who flew home from Galveston Texas, a niece and husband, Mr. and Mrs. George Cushing of Hartford, Conn., another niece, Mrs. A. J. Blouin of Ardsley, N. Y., and a nephew Ralph Waite, from White, Plains, N. Y.
