Obituary
CARL W. SANDS DEXTER-Carl W. Sands, 74, died May 31 in Dexter. He was born Jan. 16, 1901 at East Dover, the so Albert and Elizabeth Graves Sands. He attended the Dover-Foxcroft schools and moved to Dexter in 1918 where he worked for the Fay and Scott machine shop as foreman of the foundry. He retired in 1968 after 51 years of employment. At the time of his death, he was employed by the Dexter School Department as a custodian at the middle school. Sands enjoyed gardening and had a local reputation for early crops of peas in his Lower Main Street garden. He was a member of the Dexter Fire Department, the Dexter Fish and Game Association and was a communicant of St. Anne's Catholic Church. Besides his widow, Julia Clukey Sands of Dexter, he is survived by two sons, Ronald F. of Carmel and Galen E. of Dexter; three daughters, Mrs. George (Isabelle) Sampson of Newington, Conn., Mrs. Robert (Althea) Thombs of Dexter, Mrs. Wayne (Ruth) Dow of Worcester, Mass; one brother, Albert, of Dover-Foxcroft; his mother, also of Dover-Foxcroft; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were June 3 at St. Anne's Catholic Church, Dexter.
