Obituary	ARTHUR E. SILVER Upper Montclair, N.J. - Funeral services for Arthur E. Silver of Upper Montclair, N.J. who died March 26, were held March 28 at Upper Montclair. Silver, 95, was born Aug. 14, 1879 at Silvers Mills, Me. Which was named for his grandfather. He attended Dexter schools and graduated from the University of Maine in 1902 with a B.S. degree. He received his Doctor of Engineering degree (an honorary degree) from the University in 1954. In 1951 he was the recipient of the Lamme Gold Medal award given by the American Institute of Engineering. This was in recognition of his "pioneering of rural electrification by designing a simplified farm-type transformer, which lowered the cost of transmission to rural areas." Silver was chief electrical engineer for Ebasco Services Inc., formerly Electric Bond and Share Co., retiring in 1948. He was a member of countless clubs and served on many technical committees for Electrical companies including the Edison Electrical Institute and Bell System, on rural electrification, he always continued his interest in the Dexter area. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Jessie Teal Silver, whom he married in 1914; one son, Charles W. Silver of North Haven, Conn; two daughters Mrs. Mary Mulry of Upper Montclair and Mrs. Elizabeth Stager of Palo Alto, California; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Miss Mary Silver and Mrs. Ethel (Silver) Grant of South Sangerville.
