Obituary
EDWARD L. CLIFFORD Edward L. Clifford, 89, died in a local nursing home Tuesday following a long period of ill health. He was born in Prospect, Sept. 25, 1884, son of Henry L. and Henrietta (Larrabee) Clifford. He spent most of his life in the Dexter-Garland area and attended Dexter schools & Bates College. In his early years he taught school and was engaged in farming, after which he apprenticed as a machinist at the Fay-Scott Machine Shop in Dexter where he was employed until his retirement. He was active in town affairs, having held town offices in Dexter and Garland for most of his life. He was chairman of the Dexter Republican Committee and served a term in the Maine State Legislature. He joined the Dexter Grange in 1903 and served as master of both the Dexter and Garland Granges for many years. He was a member of the Pomona Grange and the Maine State Grange. He also served as treasurer of Grange Store Corp. in Dexter. He was a member of the IOOF and Plymouth Masonic Lodge, both of Dexter. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Minnie Clifford of Dexter, one son Lincoln of Hermon; two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Crawford of Sharon, Mass., and Mrs. Florence Timmins of Wakefield, Mass.; one sister, Mrs. Rae Eaton of Brockton, Mass., one half-brother, John Robinson of Perry Point; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. Friends desiring may make donations to the Plummer Memorial Hospital in memory of Mr. Clifford.
