FRANK E. FORTIER Frank E. Fortier, 89, died on April 19 at a nursing home in Dover-Foxcroft. He was born in Turner, Sept. 18, 1884, the son of Ephraim and Anna (Merrill) Fortier. He was graduated in 1910 from the University of Maine where he was an outstanding athlete. He set a state record in the mile run. He married Ethel Carsley of Dexter. Mr. Fortier taught school many years in Maine before moving to St. Petersburg, Fla., in 1924, where he also taught school. He and Mrs. Fortier returned to Maine in 1970 to reside in Dexter. Mr. Fortier belonged to the Masonic Order, was past president of the Maine State Society in St. Petersburg, Fla. Besides his widow, Ethel C. Fortier of Dexter, he is survived by two sons, Frank B. of Winthrop and Robert M. of Dexter; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; several nieces. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at the Crosby Funeral Home in Dexter, with the Rev. Robert Sterling officiating, assisted by the Rev. Bud Kelley. Burial will follow later in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter.
