Obituary
AMOS ABBOTT SPRINGALL The entire community was saddened Wednesday morning when learning of the death Tuesday night at 11.30 o'clock of Amos A. Springall of this town, one of Dexter's most prominent business men and treasurer of the Dexter Loan & Building Association since its inception 42 years ago. Mr. Springall was stricken about ten days ago with heart trouble and although at times hopes were held for his recovery he grew steadily worse on Tuesday and passed away at 11.30 P. M. He was, born in Dexter 74 years ago the son of Dr. John and Emily Abbott Springall. His education was received here with the exception of a pharmaceutic course received elsewhere, his entire life had been passed in Dexter, where he had always maintained a great interest in the municipal affairs of the town. He was a deeply interested member of the First Universalist parish, where he was a regular church attendant, having for many years served as Sunday school librarian, and until last year was church treasurer for many years and at the time of his death a member of the board of trustees. A man of highest integrity, his opinion was sought by many in various affairs. He was a director of the local branch of the Merrill Trust Co., and had been for several years. Mr. Springall was a member of Bedivere Lodge, K. of P., and the Men's Club of the First Universalist church. Mr. Springall's first business enterprise was in the drug business, conducting a drug store in the old Mercantile Block for over 15 years, it being in his office that the Dexter Loan & Building Association was born and functioned during its early life. Later he sold his drug business to Davis & Wright. He has served Dexter in many public capacities, as tax collector for several years and as a very efficient selectman for several terms. Since the erection of the Abbott Memorial Library, Mr. Springall has served continuously as a member of the board of trustees. In whatever he undertook, one could feel that it would be work well accomplished as Mr. Springall never did anything but what he put his very best into the undertaking. Truly in this man Dexter loses one of the finest of citizens. Mr. Springall is survived by one sister, Miss Lizzie Springall, and by one brother, John W. Springall, of this town. Mrs. Springall passed away several years ago and her sister, Miss Annie Dustin has made her home with Mr. Springall since that time. To the family the deep sympathy of the entire community is extended. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 standard time, at the Universalist church.
