PHILIP MAYNARD Philip Emery Maynard, 71, died Tuesday in Gulfport, Fla. He was born in Machias, May 8, 1898, the son of Emery and Elizabeth (Garnett) Maynard. He moved to Dexter the age of 19 and married the former Hazel Richards who died in 1944. In 1946 he married the former Martha Lander. Maynard had worked at the Amos Abbott Co. in Dexter, Eastern Furniture Co. in Bangor, Gilman Inc., in Newport, and Maine Home Equipment Co., from which he retired seven years ago. He was a member of the Newport Masonic Lodge, the Newport Royal Arch Chapter, and the Newport OES, and was a former member of the Waldoboro Commandery and Anah Temple Shrine in Bangor Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Martha (Lander) Maynard of Newport; one daughter, Mrs. Cyril (Katherine) Gilbert of Bath; two sons, Richard of Newport and W. Philip of Villa Park, Ill.; nine grandchildren; one great - grandchild; one brother, Alden, of Portland; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be at the Farnham Funeral Home, Newport, Friday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Walter Thyng officiating. Spring burial will be in Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. Public Masonic services will be conducted at the funeral home Thursday at 7 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday afternoon and evening.
