Rites Held For George Everett Funeral services for George D. Everett, Bangor and Dexter banker and industrialist were held Monday afternoon at the First Universalist Church in Bangor with the Rev. Gordon J. Svoboda officiating. Burial was in Mount Hope Cemetery. He died Friday afternoon at his Bangor home at the age of 77. Born in Fort Fairfield, Sept. 6, 1892, he was the son of Elden J. and Annie M. (Clark) Everett. A graduate of Aroostook Central Institute and Shaw Business College, he joined Merrill Trust in 1914 as a messenger. He then rose to auditor, treasurer, vice-president president, director and in 1959 became chairman of the board. He became affiliated with the Fay and Scott Corporation in Dexter in 1939 and was named chairman of the board in 1943. During various reorganizations of the corporation, which included the acquisition of the nation's largest company for the manufacture of shoe repair machinery, he continued to hold top management positions, being elected president of Fayscott Landis in 1962. In 1962, he received an honorary Doctor of Laws' degree from the University of Maine and was cited for his outstanding ability as an administrator and supporter of civic programs. He is survived by his sister, Mrs. Pearl M. Frost of Westfield. Among Dexter people attending the funeral of George D. Everett at Bangor, Monday were Hovey E. Harmon, Clarence A. Harrington, Frederick Bassett and Cyril Pooler, representing the Fayscott Landis Machine Corporation, Mrs. Bassett and Mrs. Pooler accompanied their husbands. Charlton H. Ryder, manager of the Dexter Branch of the Merrill Trust Company, also attended.
