Obituary
Rites Held For Dexter's Oldest Eugene Swanton, 94, Dexter's oldest person, and a former cattle and meat dealer here, died Saturday morning at a local nursing home following a long period of failing health. The life-long Dexter resident was the holder of the Sunshine Club gold headed cane. He was born in Dexter, April 24, 1874 the son of Seth and Drusilla Coakley Swanton and was a 50-year member of Penobscot Masonic Lodge, Dexter. He attended school in the Number 10 area and was graduated from Dexter High School. He also attended a business college. He was a cattle and meat dealer in Dexter most of his life. He had worked at Hall's canning factory. He leaves his wife, Mrs. Alice Swanton, a son George C. Swanton, Westford, Mass., a daughter Mrs. Eugenia Horton, North Waterford, a granddaughter, Mrs. Jean Horton Moore, Westbrook, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Crosby Funeral Home, Dexter with the Rev. John FJ McNally of the First Universalist Church officiating. Spring burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. note: photo accompanies article
