Obituary
WILLIAM H. TOWARD William H. Toward born in Freedom, Maine, and a former resident of, Dexter, died in Antrim, New Hampshire, May 15, 1928, aged eighty two years, eight months and 15 days. He was the son of James and Olive Toward, for many years residents of Dexter, and is buried on the same lot with his parents at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Dexter. Mr. Toward was a veteran of the Civil War, enlisting at the age of eighteen in Co. B, 30th Maine Infantry and received his discharge on his twenty-first birthday. Sometime in the '80s Mr. Toward entered the employ of the New England Telegraph and Telephone Company and was stationed at Worcester. Mass., resigning about ten years later he made his home at Antrim. He always had a great love for his boyhood town and was happy to visit Dexter as he occasionally did. On this cemetery lot we counted four Grand Army flags, that for William H. Toward and one for his brother Charles P., one for a brother-in-law, Franklin Young, and one for another brother-in-law, Ithamar B. Merrill.
