Obituary
Rites Held For Hunting Victim Funeral services for David Paul Chabot of Dexter were held Saturday in St. Anne's Church. He was drowned on Nov. 27, four days after his 25th birthday while deer hunting with his uncle, Philip. Somerset County Sheriff Francis B. Henderson of Skowhegan, who directed recovery operations, reported that Chabot and his uncle had wounded a deer which crossed Main Stream in Ripley. Both hunters spotted the deer again and fired, this time killing the animal. In an effort to retrieve the deer, David crossed the thin ice but fell through. His uncle, after vain attempts at rescue, walked soaking wet to the home of Mrs. Clyde Willard, a mile and a half away. Mrs. Willard summoned authorities. Reginald Mossey, of Dexter, one of five wardens at the scene, recovered the body at 9:45 p. m. in 10 feet of water about 15 feet downstream from where the tragedy occurred. Dexter volunteer firemen also assisted in the grappling operations. David was born in Dexter, Nov. 23, 1943, the son of Joseph and Eva (Fanjoy) Chabot. He was a member of the U.. S. Army Reserve, a communicant of St. Ann's Catholic Church and a 1961 graduate of Dexter High School. He was employed by Fayscott Landis Machine Corporation in Dexter. Surviving are his parents of Dexter; two brothers, Richard of Dexter and Roland of Westbrook; three sisters, Miss Elaine Chabot, Mrs. Edward (Marie) Conway and Mrs. James (Beverly) Edgecomb, all of Dexter; also several uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery next spring. note: photo accompanies article
