Obituary	Dexter Loses Civic Leader Dedicated Citizen and Friend Clarence H. Crosby, 74, prominent civic leader and former vice president of the Maine Bar Association and life time resident of Dexter, died Friday at a local hospital. He was born in Dexter May 28, 1894, the son of J. Willis and Fannie L. Crosby, and graduated from Bowdoin College, summa cum laude in 1917. After he graduated from Harvard Law School in 1925, he became the fourth in a direct line of lawyers in the firm of Crosby and Crosby, Dexter. His father, grandfather Josiah, and great grandfather Oliver all had practiced law. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War I, and was president of the Penobscot County War Chest during World War II. Crosby was a director of the Merrill Trust Co., Fay & Scott Co., and the Dexter Public Health Association. He also served as treasurer and director of the Plummer Memorial Hospital, and had been chairman of the Dexter Finance Committee. He had served in the State Legislature for two terms. He was active in Masonic circles and belonged to the Anah Temple Shrine, Bangor. He was a member of Poulliot Seavey Post American Legion and a trustee of Abbott Memorial Library. He attended the First Universalist Church of Dexter. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Helen (Foss) Crosby of Dexter; two daughters, Mrs. Wayne (Isabella) Shipman of Wolfeboro, N. H., and Mrs. Charlton (Priscilla) Lewis of Brooklyn, N. Y.; two sons Charles J. of Wellesley Hills, Mass. and David of Auburn; also nine grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the First Universalist Church Sunday at 2 p. m. with the Rev. John FJ McNally Jr. officiating. Members of the Penobscot County Bar Association assembled in front of the church and attended in a group. Honorary bearers were from Bangor: George D. Everett, John F. Grant, Charles Morris, George F. Peabody, Gerald Rudman, Routelle Savage and Richard Warren. Also Louis 0. Hilton, Greenville. From Dexter were Henry J. Atwood, Paul Barstow, James F. Cox, Norman F. Plouff, Bartolo M. Siciliano, Russell Gerould, Marvin Salisbury, Lloyd H. Hatch Sr. and Robert E. CinqMars. Active bearers were Thomas R. Tillson, Frederick H. Bassett Jr., Fred A. Draeseke, Ralph D. Batson, Malcolm L. Dow and Donald W. Brown. Burial was in Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
