Obituary
Police Probe Dexter's First Pedestrian Death In 32 Years Dexter police are investigating the town's first fatal pedestrian accident in 32 years after a vehicle said to be driven by Richard Seamans, about 23, of Corinna, struck and killed 13-year-old Jane Frautten of Guilford on Spring Street, Saturday evening. It was reported that Seamans left the scene, but he went to the residence of a relative and telephoned Trooper Darrell Hartley. Seamans later returned to the scene. According to motorists passing the area prior to the accident, three young girls, apparently teenagers, were walking toward Dexter from Corinna in pouring rain, and jumping, out in front of cars. Dexter Police Chief Harold B. Knox, whose department is investigating the accident, said that no one had come forward to say that he had observed the Frautten girl in such acts prior to the accident and it did not appear that these reports figured in the investigation. It was reported that the Frautten girl was staying with another teenager, Barbara Ward of Corinna over the weekend. The Frautten girl along with the Ward teenager and another girl left the Ward residence and walked to Dexter Saturday evening. Neighbors and persons working the evening shift at Fay Scott Landis heard a loud noise from what is believed to be the impact of the vehicle that struck the Frautten girl. Seeing the girl's body lying in the street, a resident called Dexter Police. Patrolman Gerald Nichols, first on the scene, was assisted by Troopers Hartley and Clifford Gray of East Corinth and Penobscot Deputy Sheriff Merle Sands. The Frautten girl was born in Dexter Feb. 12, 1954, lived in Guilford, and was a student at Piscataquis Community High School. She was a member of the MYF at the Guilford Methodist Church and the Junior Choir of the church. She was also a member of the PCHS Junior Band. Surviving are her parents, Mrs. Marjorie Frautten, Guilford, and Vincent Frautten, Dexter; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Ladd of Guilford; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Frautten of Dexter, several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services were held at the Methodist Church, Guilford, Tuesday with Rev. Paul Bell officiating. Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery.
