Dexter's Oldest Rites Held For Carrie Safford Mrs. Carrie E. Safford, 100, Dexter' s oldest citizen, died Saturday morning at a local nursing home. She was born in Ripley, Mar. 8, 1867, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sewell Lane and was the only survivor of a family of five children. She attended Ripley schools, was married to the late A. B. Safford and the mother of the late George Safford. She spent nearly all of her 100 years in Dexter where she was employed for many years in the Old Brick Mill and at the Dumbarton Mill, now Crown Alexander. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Mildred Christopher of Woodsville, N. H.; one grandson, Wade Upton of Phoenix, Ariz.; several other grandchildren and great grandchildren and a cousin Eugene Swanton of Dexter. Private funeral services were held at the Crosby Funeral Home with the Rev. Philip Mather officiating. Burial was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
