Obituary
CHARLES F. FLYNT Charles F. Flynt, son of Daniel D. and Narcissa J. (Crockett) Flynt, was born in Abbot, Maine, in 1857, and died in Augusta, Maine, Oct. 5, 1933. The family came to Dexter, when the boys were young and he attended the Dexter schools and then learned the printer's trade, entering the business as "printer's devil" under R. 0. Robbins, editor of the Gazette in 1875. Three years later he became associated with the Portland Daily Press. For seven years beginning 1881, he was employed by Sprague and Son, Publishers of the Kennebec Journal published in Augusta, Maine. Mr. Flynt had been connected with the paper serving as foreman of the job department. In the issue of August 23, 1887, it was announced that he had purchased an interest in the paper and was henceforth a member of the firm. In introducing Mr. Flynt to its readers the Journal said editorially: "He is a youn. man who has made his way as a capable printer, and a man of honesty, faithfulness to every trust and capacity in business affairs, and will be a valuable acquisition in the firm. Mr. Flynt will have charge of the business of the office." Other changes were made in the ownership and in November 1887 the new firm became Burleigh & Flynt, the owners being Clanence B. Burleigh and Charles F. Flynt. Under their management the paper thrived. About 1913 the firm name became the Kennebec Journal Publishing Company. Mr. Flynt become president and general manager in 1922. He had retired several years before his death. Charles F. Flynt married Ida M. adapted daughter of Benjamin F. and Elizabeth R. (Jacobs) Horton, and they had three sons and one daughter.
