Obituary
ROGER T. GILBERT Roger T. Gilbert, 40, civic leader, former Dexter postmaster and, at one time, secretary of the National Postmasters Association, died suddenly at his home Thursday afternoon June 27. Police Chief Harold B. Knox and Penobscot County Medical Examiner Dr. H. Lewis Taylor reported. Born in Dexter Aug. 7, 1926, the son of Reginald T. and Ellen (Ambrose) Gilbert, he attended the local schools, held the rank of major in the United States Army Reserve, was chairman of the town's finance committee at the time of his death and was a long time member and chairman of its school board. He was former president of the Dexter Development Association, a member of the local American Red Cross board, St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church parish and Cardinal Mercier Council, Knights of Columbus. Lately, he had been employed by the Dexter Shoe Company. Surviving are his parents, his widow, the former Lorraine Robichaud; two daughters, Paulette and Mary; three sons, Thomas, Richard and Peter; two brothers, Douglas and Robert, all of Dexter; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Services were held Saturday morning at St. Anne's Church with the Rev. Lucien Mandeville, pastor, officiating. Interment was at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter.
