DANIEL D. FLYNT Daniel Flynt was a character, in the way. He married Narcissa J. Crockett, daughter of Samuel and Narcissa (Gilbert) Crockett, of Abbot, Maine, and they lived in Abbot for a time. The Crockett's had the name of being opinionated, whichever side of the family it came from. Samuel is a good bble name and common at that time but Narcissa was rather fanciful. They named their oldest son Hiram, which was also common, another was named Gilbert, evidently for his mother; two sons were named Columbus and Americus, but they lived their lives out in Abbot. Columbus on the ancestral farm and Americus not far away. While leaving Abbot, Daniel Flynt did various kinds of work. At one time he worked as a carriage-maker. He had various helpers. At one time Hiram and Hudson Maxim were associated with him, and after the Maxim brothers became famous, Mr. Flynt was very proud of his connection with them. When the family came to Dexter they lived for a time on Spring Street and kept boarders. Later Mr. Flynt bought the Jonathan Farrar house on upper Main St. now called the Blethen house, and this was thereafter their home. Mr. Flynt kept a country store with his brother-in-law as partner for a time. He did teaming, and at one time if you wanted a building moved you looked up Daniel Flynt. When there was a call for a draw-bridge at the Float bridge, it was Mr. Flynt who built the draw. Mr. Flynt was always interested in town affairs and many subject got well aired and much better understood because Mr. Flynt, who earned the name of the "Great Objector." During the Civil War he served with the 1st Maine Cavalry. Daniel D. Flynt died in Dexter, Maine May 25, 1899, at the age of seventy-four years. Narcissa J. Flynt died in Dexter, Maine, May 10, 1907, aged seventy nine years.
