FRANK J. CARSLEY Frank J. Carsley was born in Sangerville, Maine, May 11, 1859, the son of Daniel and Nancy (Potter) Carsley. His youth was spent in that town and for five years he served as selectman of Sangerville. He married Ida J. Brett and they had three children two daughters and a son. Mr. Carsley came to Dexter about 1989 and soon made a place for himself in the business and political and social life of the town. He engaged for a time in the grocery business and in company with Harry Weymouth he bought potatoes, and apples and other produce for the Boston, market. He also dealt, for a time, in farming implements. He was appointed postmaster during the Wilson administration, serving for nine years and winning a wide circle of friends by his pleasing personality. He served a term as treasurer of Penobscot County with honor to himself and his party. He served on the Dexter board of assessors for a number of years. He was always interested in politics and for many years served as chairman of the Democratic town committee. His wife having died several years previously, while living in Bangor, Mr. Carsley married for the second time, his bride being Miss Catherine A Reid. They had one son. "Mr. Carsley was a member of Penobscot lodge, F. and A. M., St. John's Royal Arch chapter, and Wassookeag Chapter order of the Eastern Star. He was also a member of the United Commercial Travelers." For a time Mr. Carsley was engaged in market gardening and the raising of poultry, in which pursuit he was successful. After retiring from active business, Mr. Carsley and his family spent their winters in St. Petersburg. Florida, but he had remained in Dexter the last two winters of his life. The family got homesick for cold weather and snow Frank J. Carsley died in Dexter, Maine, December 28, 1936, having lived a manly, useful life.
