Obituary	ELLEN E. (LEIGHTON) FOSS Miss Ellen E. Leighton followed Miss Lydia B. Weymouth in the Lower Primary school or Primary No. 2. We first find her spoken of in the school report of March 1. 1880, when she had been in the school for two, terms. In 1881 this school is reported as the "largest in the town but under a conscientious and enthusiastic teacher it has done good work. Miss Leighton remained in this school for seven years and the reports are invariably good. In the report of 1886 she had changed her name having married Charles H. Foss as his second wife. The school board received her resignation with reluctance. Ellen Leighton was the daughter of Seba French Leighton and his wife, Nancy (Jones) Leighton of Dover, Me. Ellen Leighton was born in Dexter on November 11, 1848. Later the family moved to Bangor where Seba F. Leighton died, August 23, 1857. The widow later married Mr. Charles H. Overlook and they made their home in Bangor. She was for a second time widowed, but lived to be 102 years old, passing away in Bangor in 1926. Mr. Charles H. Foss died in Dexter, July 11, 1908, and some time afterward Ellen Leighton Foss went to Bangor to help care for her aged mother. She died in Bangor November 3, 1930, at the age of 81 years. Mrs. Foss was a good teacher, a faithful friend, and interested in all good things.
