Rites Held For Marine Killed In Viet Nam Funeral services for Jon I. Clifford, 24, a lance corporal with the U.S. Marines, were held Friday afternoon at the Crosby Funeral Home at Dexter. Chaplain Hunter of the Brunswick Naval Station officiated. Interment will take place at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter, later this spring. The grand nephew of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Clifford, Zion's Hill, he was killed in Viet Nam March 9. Corporal Clifford was born at Sandusky, O., son of Ardelia M. Clifford and the late Lt. Col. Robert L. Clifford. He moved to Maine in 1961, and resided at Augusta until 1963 when he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Prior to entering the service, he was employed by the Augusta Iron Works and the Mobil Oil Corporation. He was a 1962 graduate of Cony High School, Augusta, and had attended the National Heavy Equipment Operators School, Charlotte, N.C. He is survived by his mother of Augusta; three brothers, Henry L. Clifford, San Diego, Calif., Donald R. Clifford, Brockton, Mass., and Peter L. Clifford, serving with the U.S. Marines in Japan; a sister, Mrs. Ann E. Nault of Milwaukee, Wis., and his gradmother, Mrs. Florence S. Huff of Guilford.
