Obituary
ALICE MAXIM ADDITON Alice Maxim was born in 1864, in Sangerville, Maine the daughter of Samuel and Lucretia Maxim. In 1885 we find in District No. 10 Dexter. We quote the School report of that year: "This is the largest of the rural schools; and it had the best average attendance of these, excelled only by the High, School and the First Intermediate. It was under the charge of a dilligent, energetic teacher who secured from the scholars hearty cooperation." The next year Miss Maxim was in District No. 5, where she "Sustained throughout the year her excellent reputation as a teacher." In 1887 we find Miss Maxim installed as teacher of Primary No. 2. in Dexter village, in place of Mrs. Ellen Foss, resigned. We quote the report of that year: "A good teacher and a good school. Miss Maxim has shown herself 'A workman who needeth not to be ashamed'." In March 1887, Miss Maxim was married to Elmer P. Additon, and thereafter made her home at the Additon farm in District No. 5. But she continued her charge of Primary No. 2 until 1890, having served in that capacity for four years. She had been a good teacher and she was a good wife and a good neighbor. This District has for years held an annual old home dav at the school house, often carrying out some plan to improve the school house or the school grounds. One year they planted trees on the grounds, which are more spacious than the average school yard. For some years the pupils of the district have been brought to the village schools but the neighbors are still keeping up the school property and holding the reunions. Mr. and Mrs. Additon were always interested in the neighborhood interests and ready to do their part to prosper them. Mrs. Alice Maxim Additon died at her farm home in May, 1939, at the age of seventy-five years, and Mr. Additon died the following November.
