HORACE C. GILBERT Horace Chandler Gilbert, 64, died Sunday at a local hospital after a short illness. He was born September 9, 1900 at Monson, the son of Alner C. and Inez Mabel (Chandler) Gilbert. He came to Dexter in 1917 and went to work for the Fay and Scott Machine Shop where he had been employed until his illness except for 11 years when he worked for H. L. Tillson and Company. Mr. Gilbert had been a former assistant superintendent and at the time of his death was a foreman of two departments at Fayscott. He had organized Fayscott bands at two different times during his employment with the firm. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Elizabeth (Batey) Gilbert; one daughter, Mrs. Elaine Getchell of Goldsboro, N. C.; one granddaughter, one grandson; one brother, Bernal L. Gilbert of Exeter; two sisters, Mrs. Marion Trueworthy of Gorham and Mrs. Ruth Byers of Santee, Calif.; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Crosby Funeral Home with his pastor, the Rev. Philip Mather, of the First Baptist Church of Dexter officiating. Interment was in Monson Village Cemetery.
