Services Held For 'Jack' Roberts Funeral services for former State Representative and prominent Dexter Businessman Otis J. (Jack) Roberts, who died Sunday at his Dover Rd. home following a long illness, were held Tuesday at the Dexter Methodist Church with the Rev. John Meisner of Dover-Foxcroft officiating. Mr. Roberts, who has been a retail milk dealer in the Dexter Dover and Garland area for the past 43 years, served five terms in the State Legislature until his defeat for his sixth term bid for that office in the 1958 primary. The 87 year-old dairyman and farmer was born at Belgrade, March 1, 1877, son of Otis and Louise (Hussey) Roberts. He was active in Grange activities noted by his 45 years' membership in the South Sangerville organization. He served two terms as master of that organization and as master of the Piscataquis Pomona Grange. He was also a member of the State Grange. In July 1964, when the Grange held its annual outing at the picnic area developed and maintained by Mr. Roberts, the use of :the Area was dedicated to South Sangerville Grange. He belonged to the Plymouth Odd Fellows Lodge of Dexter, the Dexter Fish and Game Association, the Farm Bureau, Republican Town Committee and he was a trustee and treasurer of the Dexter School District. Survivors are his widow, Alice (Jackson) Roberts; two sons, Otis, Jr., and Omar, both of Dexter; a brother, Winfield Roberts of Bangor; five grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Burial will be at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Dexter in the spring. note: photo accompanies article
