Obituary
CLEMENT DOWNS Prayers for Clement Downs, 69, who died Saturday at his home on the North Dexter road after a long illness, were said at the grave at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter, Monday afternoon, April 27. The Rev. Gordon F. Parlin of the Methodist Church officiated. He was born Sept. 15, 1894, at Carmel, son of Charles and Louise (Mantor) Downs. He was a member of the old Congregational Church at Blanchard and a former member of Penny Memorial Church, Augusta. He had been an industrial arts teacher at Cony High School, Augusta and while there was active in scouting. For five years he taught industrial arts at Skowhegan where he was also active in Scouting. He came to Dexter 10 years ago. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Helen Downs of Dexter; two sons, Richard of Vancouver, Wash., and Robert of Denver, Colo., a daughter Mrs. June Merrill of Dexter; a sister, Mrs. Howard Glidden of Winslow; a brother, Lloyd Downs of Hartland; 13 grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
