Obituary	CHARLES M. SAWYER Charles Maurice Sawyer, 67, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound Friday night at his home in Palmyra. He was born at Ripley, Feb. 3, 1896, son of Albert and Irene (Smith) Sawyer. He attended Ripley schools and was a veteran of World War I. He married Maizie Rice, who died in 1951. He married Alice Russell, Oct. 20, 1956, at Bangor and they settled in Palmyra. He had been employed as a lathe operator by the Ames-Baldwin Company at Pittsfield. Surviving are his widow, Alice Sawyer; a step-son, Donald Rice of Palmyra; a foster daughter, Mrs. Virginia Davis of Palmyra; two brothers, Edward W. Sawyer of Newport and Bert Sawyer of Dexter; two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Clark of Saco, Mrs. Nellie Hight of Dexter; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Monday at the Farnham Funeral Home, Newport, the Rev. Norman Young of Belfast, formerly of Hartland, officiating. Burial was in Pooler Cemetery, Palmyra.
