Obituary
MRS. RALEIGH F. SMART Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Nov. 4, at the First Universalist Church, Dexter, for Mrs. Sarah L. Smart, wife of Raleigh F. Smart, who died at the Plummer Memorial Hospital late Thursday afternoon after a long period of ill health. Dr. Myron Klinkman of the Bangor Theological Seminary officiated. Bearers were Robert Whitney, Erwin Chandler, E. Carl Crocker, Norman Quimby, Maynard Prescott and Horace Hopkins. Interment was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. Martha Washington Rebekah Lodge attended in a body. She was born at Carroll, Dec. 5, 1893, daughter of Freeman and Mary (Thornton) Bailey. A life member of Wassookeag Chapter, 0. E. S., she was also a member of the Eastern Star Club; a past noble grand of Martha Washington Rebekah Lodge; member of Golden Link Past Noble Grands' Association; and the Ladies' Aid of the First Universalist Church. Besides her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Phyllis Allen of Laredo, Tex., Mrs. Gladys Johnson of Lincoln and Mrs. Norma Annett of Garland; two sons, Melvin Clifford of Lincoln and Daniel Clifford of Skowhegan; three sisters, Mrs. Aurie Mapes of Idaho, Mrs. Effie McGinley of Guilford and Mrs. Gladys Bailey of Dexter; two brothers, Bert Bailey of Lincoln and Byron Bailey of Dexter; 16 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
