Obituary
Rites Held For Mario B. Fossa One of Dexter's well-known business men, Mario B. Fossa, 76, who operated Fossa's Store on Main st. for 26 years until his health failed, died Sunday afternoon at his home on Main st. A High Mass of Requiem was celebrated Tuesday morning at St. Anne's Catholic Church by the Rev. Antonio Girardin of Pittsfield. Interment will take place this spring at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. Honorary bearers: Nathan Bucknam, Charles Brewster, Adrian Robinson and Reynold Thompson. Active bearers: Cilfford Goulette, Edward Hackett, Harold Hatch, Gerald Ladd, Jack Ladd, Perley Pynes. Mr. Fossa was born at Genoa, Italy, Dec. 5, 1884, son Luigi and Paula Fossa. He came to the United States at the age of nine and lived with relatives in the area of Beverly and Salem Mass. For several years, before going into business for himself, he was co-owner with S. L. Carbone of the Boothbay Fruit Company at Bar Harbor. Mr. Fossa first operated the Milo Fruit for nine years prior to coming to Dexter in 1924. When failing health forced his retirement in 1950, his son James became owner of the business. Mr. Fossa had been a resident of this town for 37 years, and was a member of St. Anne's Catbolic Church. He is survived by his widow, Mary (Paddock) Fossa; a son, James Fossa of Dexter;. a sister, Mrs. Amelia Rissatto; a brother, Angelica Fossa, both of Genoa, Italy; and three grandchildren. note: photo accompanies article
