Obituary
Services Held For Omar Carr Funeral services were held this afternoon, Thursday, at the First Universalist Church of Dexter for Omar F. Carr, 75, who died Monday afternoon at the EMG Hospital, Bangor, after a long illness. The Rev. E. King Hempel officiated. The remains were entombed and burial will take place this spring in the family lot at the Sangerville Cemetery. Bearers: Honorary bearers were Bert Call, Nathan Bucknam, Dr. Charles Ryan, Rochie Smith, Jere Abbott and Henry J. Atwood. The active bearers were Donald Champeon, Harold Arey, Harold Getchell and three brother Masons from the Sangerville Lodge. It was a Masonic service. He was born at Sangerville, Oct. 9, 1884, the son of Fred and Susie (Oakes) Carr. He was a graduate of Sangerville High School and Higgins Classical Institute at Charleston. For several years he was associated with his father at their mill in Sangerville; this was followed by several years' employment at the American Woolen Mill in Hartland, and for the past 30 years Mr. Carr had been associated with the Amos Abbott Company in Dexter. During the years he made his home in this town he was always interested in all civic affairs. He married the late Josephine (Phinney) Carr August 1, 1906. Mrs. Carr died Feb. 17, 1944. Mr. Carr was a past master of Abner Wade Lodge, F. & A. M., of Sangerville and held a 50-year pin from that order; a member of Susie Carr Chapter, 0. E. S., of Sangerville, which was named for his mother; Central Council No. 18, Dover-Foxcroft; St. John's Royal Arch Chapter, Dexter; De Molay Commandery, Skowhegan; and was a former member of Anah Temple Shrine of Bangor. He was a past president of the Dexter Club and the Elkinstown Club, and a member of the First Universalist Church of Dexter. He is survived by two sons, Ogden M. Carr of Dexter and Theodore 0. Carr of Cape Elizabeth; a sister, Miss Ethel M. Carr of Dexter; a brother, Harry M. Carr of Keene, N. H., four grandchildren, a great granddaughter and nephews. Orville Carr, Town Manager of Sangerville, is a cousin.
