Obituary
FRANK W. HAINES Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 25, at the First Universalist Church in Dexter for Frank Warren Haines, 71, who died Monday evening at Togus Veterans' Hospital after an illness. The Rev. E King Hempel officiated. Military honors were accorded by fellow-members of Poulliot-Seavey Post, American Legion of Dexter. Bearers were Legionnaires, Charles Coy, Archie Burrill, Wendell Higgins, Charles F. Haines, Jack Murdock, Jr., and Robert C. Dudley. Interment was at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Mr. Haines was born in Dexter, October 8, 1888, son of John and Mary (Roberts) Haines. He was graduated from Dexter High School in 1908 and attended the University of Maine for three years. While at the University, he became a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and the Sophomore Owls. During World War I he served in the U. S. Navy. Mr. Haines was Dexter Town Clerk from 1935 to 1937. He moved to Augusta in 1937 to accept employment in the State Department of Health and Welfare, and remained in that position for 2 years. He was a charter member and past commander of the Dexter American Legion Post; a member of Penobscot Lodge, F. & A.M. Dexter; a member of the Winthrop St. Universalist Church, Augusta, and the Men's Club of that church; and had served as a church trustee. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Winifred (Beverly) Haines of Augusta; two sons, Frank W. Haines, Jr. of Trenton, N. J., and Lt. Commander John B. Haines, Newport, R. I., and six grandchildren. Out of town members of the family here for the service were Mrs. Haines and two sons; also, Mrs. Haines' mother, brothers and sisters, Mrs. Mary Beverly of Newtonville, Mass., Mr. and Mrs. Robert Beverly, Bangor; Mr. and Mrs. Elliott Beverly, Newtonville, Mass., and Mrs. Royce Miller of Portland.
