Obituary
Services Held For Airman R. V. Hill Prayers were said at the Vinal Hill residence in Dexter Wednesday morning, for their son, A-2c Robert V. Hill, 21, who died following an automobile accident at Winslow Sunday morning. Personal from Dow and Suffolk Co. Air Force Bases attended the funeral services which were held Wednesday afternoon at the Mars Hill United Baptist Church. The Rev. Linwood Putnam of Dexter officiated, assisted by the Rev. Earl Beal, pastor of the Mars Hill Church. Burial was in the family lot, Kingsgrove Cemetery, Mars Hill. The son of Vinal and Zola (Fletcher) Hill, he was born May 5, 1938, at Mars Hill. He attended schools in that town and in Garland, and was graduated from Dexter High School in 1956. In September of that year he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force. He took his basic training at Lackland AFB, Tex.; attended electrical school at Warren AFB, WYO.; and was transferred to Suffolk Co. AFB, Westhampton Beach, L. I. Besides his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandmother, Mrs. Serena Fletcher of Mars Hill, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Hill, who was en route from his Long Island, N. Y. station to his home in Dexter on furlough before leaving for overseas duty in Thule, Greenland, died shortly after his small sports car went out of control and crashed near the Winslow-Vassalboro town line about 6:45 o'clock Sunday morning. He was traveling alone, headed north on Route 201 when his car went out of control as it rounded a slight curve and struck a utility pole severing it near the base, according to Winslow police Chief Robert J. Bolduc. Hill died on his way to a Waterville hospital. Note: photo accompanies article
