G. HERBERT JEWETT Funeral services were held at the Bucksport Congregational Church Tuesday afternoon for G. Herbert Jewett, 67, native of Dexter and former superintendent of School Union 91, who died Sunday at a Bangor hospital after a short illness. The Rev. Charles T. Brown officiated, and burial was at Silver Lake Cemetery, Bucksport. He was born in Dexter, Nov. 16, 1891, son of George and Lois (Thompson) Jewett. He had lived in Bucksport 38 years. He served as superintendent of School Union 91 for 34 years, retiring four years ago. He was a graduate of N. H. Fay High School, Dexter, and of Bates College. He was a member of the Bucksport Congregational Church and a deacon; was chairman of the library committee of Bucksport, a past president of the Maine State Superintendents' Assn., a member of Forest Lodge, A. F.& A.M. of Springfield; Hancock Chapt., Royal Arch Masons, Bucksport; and St. John's Commandery of Bangor. He was secretary-treasurer of the Loan Building Assn., of Bucksport and for the past two years had served as a selectman. He was also a member of the Civic Club and of the Teachers' Club of that town. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Frances Jewett, Bucksport; two daughters, Mrs. Lois MacCallun of Malden, Mass., and Mrs. Nancy Lord of Chicago; three sons, George H. Jewett, Jr., and Ralph Jewett of Bucksport and Lloyd of Stillwater; two brothers, Frank of Buckstown and Lynn of Clearwater, Fla., seven grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
